Nahe-Glan Disc Golf Now Has 6 Baskets

Nahe-Glan Disc Golf made the decision to privately purchase three more baskets to bring its collection to six! The extra baskets will make it possible to create courses in the Nahe-Glan municipality that can have six independent holes rather than relying on multiple tees to the exact same basket.

This means more people can play and bigger events will be possible.

The baskets are the exact same as our original three, but black.

This wouldn't have been possible without generous pricing from our friends at TPF Discs (a great online disc seller out of Amsterdam we highly recommend) and our amazing relationship with Turnverein 1867 Bad Sobernheim, who allow us to store our baskets there, help advertise events, and support us many other ways.

On a related note, we hope to offer disc golf classes through the Turnverein in 2023. There are still details and a class structure to figure out, but more details will hopefully follow in the next few months.

So many people discovered disc golf in August & early September 2022!

August was a huge month for disc golf in the Nahe-Glan.

Youth Events
After our first free event in July (14 attendees!), word started to spread about how fun disc golf can be. One participant enjoyed it so much that she booked an event for her son's 12th birthday in August.

Along with that birthday party, we also taught kids to play disc golf at two different events that were part of the Nahe-Glan Municipality's set of programs for youth during the summer break from school. All the events were very successful, and most kids who took part are extremely excited to play disc golf again when they get the chance.

We have another private kids' birthday party booked for the middle of September and hope to get more requests as disc golf is a great way to get kids exercising outdoors.

Events for All
At our second-ever free disc golf evening in Bad Sobernheim's park on September 1, 2022, we had another solid turnout with 10 people attending. Six had never played disc golf before, and four had only played it once at our first free event a few weeks earlier.

A big hit we plan to repeat was setting up a mini-disc-golf course (basically disc golf putt-putt with baskets at short range but with plenty of bushes and trees in the way) before creating the longer course. It gave people a fun way to learn the rules of disc golf and practice putting at distances where truly anyone can dream of a hole-in-one.

All attendees stayed until the end and wanted to know when the next time they could play in Bad Sobernheim would be. The answer? Saturday, October 8th.

Our putting station at Bad Sobernheim Innenstadtfest 2022.
Thanks to the Bad Sobernheim Turnverein!
The Bad Sobernheim Turnverein gave us room to set up a putting station near their beer stand at the city's Innenstadtfest in early September. We were there for 3.5 hours and had a line of people putting or waiting to putt the entire time.

It was tons of fun and a great way to help more people learn about the sport and what Nahe-Glan Disc Golf offers and hopes to accomplish. It also seems like we'll be working closely with the Turnverein in the future. More on that – hopefully – in an upcoming post!

Baskets and Discs Are Here & Plans Develop for Fall Tournament

The three baskets and 32 discs all arrived! We hope to hold a a few small events even before the Disc Golf for Beginners courses in August.

Additionally, we got the bad news recently that due to the farmers fertilizing their fields in fall, the previous course plan following the Barefoot Path isn't possible. However, there are other great possibilities for where to put up the temporary course. We plan to explore these soon and create firm plans ASAP.

Disc Golf Program for Kids During Summer Vacation + Municipality Funds Baskets & Discs!

Nahe-Glan Mayor Uwe Engelmann asked if Alex Williamson could offer a summer program for kids during the summer break in August. Alex quickly agreed but asked if it would be possible to get baskets and loaner discs to use during the program. Mr. Engelmann generously said, "Yes"!

Thanks to an amazing deal from Dean Schaub and his shop TPF Discs, we were able to afford three Latitude 64 Pro Trainer baskets and 32 discs (16 putters, 16 midranges), which will enable not just the summer programs but other disc golf event possibilities in the Nahe-Glan throughout this year and beyond.

Walk-through of Possible Tourney Course Goes Well

Alex Williamson walked through a possible course plan for a tournament that would be played in the area of Bad Sobernheim's Barefoot Path with Nahe-Glan Municipality Mayor Uwe Engelmann.

The walk-through was a success, and Mr. Engelmann seemed very excited about the possibilities.

However, we have to check with local farmers if we can use their fields of grass for a course before making firm plans.

Today we had a great meeting with the mayor of the Nahe-Glan municipality, Mr. Uwe Engelmann, and the leader of the the Tourist Information center, Mr. Ralf Schneberger, about organizing the first disc golf event in Bad Sobernheim.

Both municipality representatives were excited by the idea of introducing disc golf in the area, and we made plans to discuss the idea further in a few weeks.

Alex Williamson led the disc golf presentation, and Ede Hamann was kind enough to drive from Wiesbaden to attend the meeting and support Alex with his extensive knowledge of disc golf event organization.
